Midroc Property Development has developed 134 co-op apartments adjacent to Lake Trummen in Växjö. They were constructed with solid wood frame with 8 floors and is Sweden’s largest newly constructed housing made of wood. The project has been awarded the prize ”Utmärkt modernt träbygge” (Excellent Modern Wood Building) by the Swedish National Timber Strategy and Träbyggnadskansliet.

All the apartments have a view of the lake and many have light throughout. Large windows also provide generous inflow of light. The sizes of the apartments vary from one to five rooms and kitchen.

The foundation is made of elements of solid wood supplied by Martinsons Byggsystem. Additionally there is traditional framing construction in some of the dividing walls of the apartments. For structural reasons the first floor has been constructed of cement.

Several researchers have been monitoring the construction of the building. CBBT, Center for Construction and Housing with Wood, is a foundation with the purpose of initiating and financing related research and development. The foundation is a result of a dialogue between the founding members, which are The University of Växjö, the municipality of Växjö, Södra, and SP Trätek. Midroc is also a member of CBBT.
